Concussion & ImPACT™ Testing

The ImPACT™ Test for Concussion

ImPact™ (Immediate Post-Concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing) is a computerized test for children 10 and older who have sustained a concussion. It measures subtle changes in brain function, allowing us to evaluate concussion effects as well as track recovery. By comparing baseline (pre-injury) and post-injury test results, ImPACT™ can help determine the severity of a concussion and be a useful tool in determining return to play.

While any child would benefit from baseline ImPact™ testing, it is especially helpful for those involved in sports who may have a higher risk of traumatic brain injury. We are pleased to offer baseline ImPact™ testing as well as post-concussion treatment with our physicians, as our office is a Credentialed ImPact Consultant™ (CIC). If your child suffers a concussion and has never had a baseline test, we can still use the ImPact™ test and compare it to normative data.

If you child has suffered a head injury, it is vital to rest him or her from both sports and academics until they can be evaluated. We offer same day and next day appointments for concussion evaluation.

Symptoms of Concussion include:
Headache Difficulty concentrating
Nausea Difficulty remembering
Vomiting Visual problems
Balance problems Feeling slowed down or “in a fog”
Dizziness Numbness or tingling
Lightheadedness Irritability/sadness
Fatigue/drowsiness Anxiety
Sensitivity to light or noise More emotional
